If one of your resolutions is to live a zero waste lifestyle then small steps towards your goal is the way to go. Adopting individual habits will lead you to have a higher chance of success in adopting this new lifestyle. An eco-friendly lifestyle is not one of perfection, it is one of the continual improvements. Remember progress over perfection is the key to success.
Start Composting
If you are looking for a zero-waste way to dispose of your food waste then compost is the answer! No matter where you live there is a way that you can introduce composting into your lifestyle. For apartment dwellers look into bokashi or worm composting. These can be easily introduced into small spaces. For anyone with a small garden, compost tumblers are a great solution. Contact your local council or community garden to see what food waste composting services are in your area!
Utilize Reusables
You may already be used to using reusable a coffee cup or cotton rounds. Now is a great time to introduce a few more reusable items into your daily life. Look at what is ending up in your trash bin and search for a reusable version. Maybe it’s single-use cutlery or produce bags?
Shop Second Hand
If you need to purchase an item, look at the second-hand market first before resorting to a brand-new purchase. Not only is this a budget-friendly option, you may also be preventing an item from going into the landfill. No matter if it is clothing, homeware or electronics, there are many ways to search for second-hand products first. A few of my favorite marketplaces are Craigslist, Facebook Marketplace, or any local community page. If don't find your item listed, post a wanted ad and allow the item to come to you!
Spend More Time in Nature
It is scientifically proven that spending time in nature is not only good for your health, but it also allows you to reconnect with nature. Often outdoor activities are healthy for your body and are also a budget-friendly way to reduce your carbon footprint.
